Quilling is the ancient art of rolling thin strips of paper into
lacy designs. Origins of quilling date back to European monasteries
in the fifteenth century. Paper was handmade and it was too
expensive to throw away the trimmings from religious books. They
were produced into artwork called paper filigree or rolled paper
work. The name quilling came from fact that the paper was wrapped
and twirled around feather quills.
Today, I use acid-free,
ligin-free papers (no rag content) and non-toxic glues to create
quilled shadowboxes. I have over one dozen standard designs to order
from and I love doing custom work too!

Quilling can be used in
many ways including:
Framed wedding invitations
Birth announcements
Poems and favorite quotations
Treasured photographs
Family coat-of–arms

The standard designs shown
can be changed and embellished. For example, Roses are Red can
become Roses in pink, purple, yellow – you name it. Quilling papers
are available in virtually any color.
Embellishments available
are seed pearls, beads, ribbons and feathers. Seed pearls can be
placed in centers of flowers instead of quilled paper centers.
Ribbons can be intertwined among the quillwork. There is a small
additional fee, typically 1-5 dollars, depending on the
embellishments. Please take a look at the custom examples; I really
enjoy creating unique quilled shadow boxes.
